“We tried another couples therapist, but she seemed kinda judgey.” “I really wanted help, but I was told to go to church.” “He was a nice guy, but he had a hard time using the right pronouns. It’s like he didn’t get it.”
These are the kinds of things I hear a lot, because many of my clients are gay and lesbian couples, individuals, trans folks, and genderqueer people who want to be comfortable and understood. I’m not a therapist who “accepts” LGBTQ, I specialize with ‘family’. I focus my continuing education as a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health; the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists; and the Queer Caucus of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
