“I just don’t see how you can call yourself a Christian, and throw your own kid out of the house.” “I can’t go back to church, not after what they did to me. But… it really did mean a lot to me.” “Religion does nothing for me. But I believe there is something bigger than just us.”
It's not unusual for people to search for meaning in their lives, and many find a faith construct or traditional religion holds a value for them. Some consider themselves, "spiritual but not religious". And, some find depth and signifigance in areas that have nothing to do with that...
In any case, there are many therapeutic issues that take us back to values that shape the way we see the world: trauma, sexuality, grief and loss, relationship struggles, abortion, coming out, aging, illness...
In addition to my training and licensure as a therapist, I am experienced with integrating spirituality into therapy. I am ordained in The Order of the Holy Rascals, and abide by our code of Ethics. It is important to me to meet a person where they stand, to understand their beliefs and opinions, and to support them as they explore their faith and practices in a way that is meaningful to them. I have no agenda regarding faith, and many clients have no interest in approaching that realm – which is absolutely fine. For those that do need to talk, and are interested in working through struggles with their religious past or present, I am qualified and passionate about walking with them on that journey.
